THE ROAD RALLY

The Uncle Sam Scallop Jam Road Rally hosted by the Rotary Club of Crystal River is a navigational challenge in which you must solve clues to find the directions a for a predetermined route through Citrus County.

The Road Rally hosted by the Rotary Club of Crystal River is a navigational challenge which combines scorable elements of time, mileage, and observation. Each competing team, consisting of a driver and a navigator, is given a set of written directions in the form of clues to follow a predetermined course through Citrus County. Clues may be riddles, rhymes, a set of pictures, etc. Teams then drive the course independently, departing at set intervals, and strive to follow the course exactly. Teams are scored on how closely to the given time and mileage they arrive at the finish line. This road rally is not a race. In fact, arriving too early actually hurts a team’s score, as does arriving too late. Being late or early or having too much or too little mileage incurs penalty points.

Sign in for the Rally begins at 11:30. Cars will start going out beginning at 12:30. If the participants have not completed the course by 5:00 PM they should proceed to Brannen Bank on US-19 in Crystal River.

Veterans Workshop

The Rotary Club of Sugarmill Woods, in conjunction with the Citrus County Veterans Service Office, is planning a Veterans Workshop.  The workshop will be held at Southern Woods Golf Club on Monday, July 12^th, at 1:00 p.m.  The workshop will be open to all Citrus County veterans.  Each veteran should bring their records of service and w-2, 1099R, and tax form for 2009.  If they don’t have all of these documents they should bring what they can.  If they cannot produce any of the documentation assistance may still be available. Don’t let a lack of documentation keep you from attending.  Citrus County Veterans Service Officers J.J. Kenney and Sam Dininno will be on hand to provide assistance.  They will provide a briefing on the services available and answer questions from the veterans in attendance.  If you are a veteran, even if you are receiving veterans benefits you need to attend to be updated on changes.  Those veterans who are not receiving benefits should attend to determine if they are missing out on benefits.
