A Street Party to Remember, Every Year

Put on by our Kings Bay Rotary friends

November is one of the most beautiful times of the year in central Florida. Summer’s heat has gone, hurricane season is over, and the Stone Crabs are in season! Those beautiful meaty bundles of salty joy are plentiful and available again! Let’s Party!

All Hands On Deck

Stone Crab ClawsWhen it comes time to throw a Rotary Party, the call goes out from one Club to others. Our Crystal River Club works with other Rotary Clubs (in this case the Kings Bay Rotary Club lead the event and we lend a hand), other Civic organizations, Youth, and Charitable organizations to pull together an event. For the Stone Crab Jam, this means closing city streets, bringing in music and other entertainment, street vendors, and food, including Stone Crab!

Planning takes months, but the well organized Rotary teams know how to pull it off. Clubs help by manning ticket booths, serving food and beverages, and give help seting up the event. And of course with the Stone Crab Jam, there’s a whole lot of Stone Crab claws to clean, crack, and serve. About a month before the event each of the 6 Rotary clubs in Citrus County circulate a sign up sheet for volunteers to work at the festival.

Rotary Club of Crystal River members turn out in force every year to ensure our friends at the Kings Bay club have a successful event.

The Jams Run All Day

It’s not just fun and food, it’s a music festival too. Seven live bands will play on three separate stages in different parts of the festival. Get your groove on all day.

It’s all for the Community

But like with other Rotary events, the proceeds go right back into Rotary projects, focused on building our community and improving lives. The event draws thousands to the tiny town of Crystal River, and local hotels, merchants, restaurants, and other services do a fine business.  Stone Crab Jam is a shot in the arm for the financial health of the community too.
